What is ESPR — and why every product touching the EU is about to need a passport.
What it is
EU ESPR Reg. (EU) 2024/1781 — the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation — requires most products sold into the EU to carry a Digital Product Passport: a digital credential carrying traceable material, durability and repairability data your auditor reads directly.
Who it applies to
Almost every physical product sold into the EU, rolled out category by category. Textiles, electronics, batteries and furniture are first; other categories follow through the Delegated Acts.
When it bites
Delegated Acts under EU ESPR Reg. (EU) 2024/1781 land progressively from 2027. EU and UK buyers are already asking for DPP-ready suppliers ahead of enforcement — the procurement pressure starts before the law does.
